Can virtual reality save the environment? A new tool to communicate the science

Campus Scientifico via Torino - edificio ALFA, Auditorium

Cody Karutz, University of Technology, Sidney

Abstract:
Stanford University Fellow and VR expert Cody Karutz will discuss his work at the intersections of conservation psychology and virtual reality (VR). His graduate thesis and VR experience The Crystal Reef explored how bringing users to a virtual coral reef in Ischia, Italy, can educate about climate change issues more effectively than other traditional media. Cody will cover the learning lessons and challenges to building a VR science communication tool, as well as discuss the future role immersive media will have in conservation and environmental education.
