Dicembre 2014          Rampur Rida Library (India), per la ricerca di materiale inedito per un progetto incentrato sul sistema di scrittura Kaithi, utilizzato fra i membri hindu e e musulmani dei Kayasth fino alla metà del 20 secolo. Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishvavidyalaya a Wardha (Maharashtra, India).

 

Luglio-Agosto 2011    Khuda Bakhsh Library Patna (Bihar, India), searching material for an ongoing research on the Kaithi script system, an alternative cursive writing system used in alternative to devanagari mainly by members of the Kayasth caste of Northern India. (durata: tre settimane)

 

Settembre 2008-2009   Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCSIS, Oxford, U.K.) with research mainly focused on documents preserved in the Bodleian Library and concerning aspects of mediaeval Muslim history in Southern Asia. (durata: 1 anno)

 

Ottobre 2003                   Department of Urdu at Karachi University (Pakistan), integrated by field research conducted in Pakistan’s southern Sind region: Thatta, Bhit Shah, Hala, Sehwan and Sukkur (Bhakkar). (durata: 1 mese)

1995-96                           Extensive field research carried out in India, of which five months spent in the Sufi monastery of the Naqshbandi order in Old Delhi, studying texts and manuscripts preserved in the library and actively participating at the daily life and routine of its residents; the second part of the research included repeated visits at the universities of Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra (Uttar Pradesh) and research at the American Library at Ramnagar (Varanasi) as well as extensive field research among traditional Hindu and Muslim environments in rural areas of Awadh and Rohilkhand. (duration: 10 months)

Title of the paper presented: “Multi-ethnicity and religious conflict in Pakistan: a young nation in an ancient land”.

 

Maggio 2003                   Paper presented at the NGO “Albero della Vita” in the Italian city of  Prato (Tuscany), in association with the Azienda USL 4, Regione Toscana, (Regional Health Service) in the context of a series of conferences aimed at promoting the cultural understanding of alternative (i.e. extra-European) traditional medical system, with special regard to those communities present in the province of Prato. Title of the paper presented: “Medical systems in Islam on the Indian subcontinent: Al-Tibb, Yunani and popular healing cults”
