The Auditorium Danilo Mainardi, found between the Alfa building ground and basement floors, appears as a single unit lined in sheets of brass turning it into a “golden chamber”. A imposing inclined wall characterizes the inside of the building, defining the triple heighted entrance and closing the auditorium to the east. It is a “volume within a volume” seating 240 on inclined tiers. The entrance to the auditorium is from the spacious foyer found on the basement level, ideated to allow visitors to circle the whole auditorium and experience it as a single unit. Access to the auditorium is also granted via a suspended walkway on the ground floor that crosses the void connecting the “golden chamber” to the rest of the building.
The hall has a control room equipped with a recording system of 3 cameras, streaming transmission systems and is the ideal venue for international conferences and seminars expecting a considerable turnout.

Location: Scientific Campus Via Torino, Mestre

The site which houses the Science Campus was granted to Ca’ Foscari University by the Municipal Council of Venice in 1991 as part of the “Public Recovery Project for the University in Via Torino Mestre”. The objective of the programme was to pilot the urban regeneration of the area outlined by Via Torino, Canal Salso, Viale Ancona and Forte Marghera. The first action was to restore and put to use the two existing buildings. The “ex abattoir”, now called Zeta building, was assigned to the Computer Science Degree Course and the Eta building was allocated for the research laboratories and teaching staff offices. This was followed by the start of the construction of the new buildings for the Science Campus.
What we see today is a Campus building complex of 27, 500 m² consisting of Zeta and Eta, the two original buildings, and four other new buildings known as Alfa, Beta, Gamma and Delta. In the near future, a further and fifth building, Epsilon, will be built as will be a student residential area. In its entirety, this complex will represent a modern university citadel that is equipped and open to the surrounding territory.
