Title: "FROM NOVEL TO FILM. INNER LIVES: TALES OF LOVE AND DISENCHANTMENT"

This module analyses some of the most successful film adaptations from postcolonial novels and novellas.

Contenuti

After an introductory unit focusing on the theories and methods of literary adaptations on film, the module will provide a critical analysis and assessment of a number of acknowledged masterpieces of postcolonial literature and their transposition on the screen. Particular attention will be given to crucial themes, such as the perception of "home" (The English Patient), issues of race, sexuality and power (Disgrace), loss, memory and healing (Felicia’s Journey), diaspora and the relationship between identity and modernity (Intimacy) and finally white supremacy, patriarchal restrictions and silence in Campion’s haunting film.
