Educational Goals

The course gives an overview over some selected issues of European history in the 19th and 20th centuries. It aims at developing the student's individual skills in research implementation and presentation, both oral and written.

Requirements

Participation during the period October-January. Those who cannot attend the seminar meetings, must however contact the professor before the start of the course (otherwise participation is not possible). They will participate in the work via email.

Contents

Initially the professor will offer a synthetic overview of some main issues of European history in the 19th and 20th centuries. Contemporarily the students will conceive and plan their individual project, which then will be presented to, and discussed by, the group.

Recommended Reading List

Some general indications will be given at the beginning of the course. A bibliography related to his/her individual research topic will be created by each student.

Teaching Language

Italian. Individual contributions in English to classroom discussion and final tests will however be accepted.

Other information

The exam consists of an oral presentation the an individual research previously accorded with the professor, and the circulation, before the oral presentation, of a 9,000 to 12,000 signs long paper (index, summary, notes, bibliography etc. included). Also those who normally not attend the lectures are however required to present their papers in the class.

Students to whom apply 4+4 credits write a 25,000-30,000 signs long paper.

The course starts on 30 September.
