Educational Goals

To give the students fundamental concepts and laws in Chemistry.
Teach the students a good knowledge of Stoichiometry.
Familiarize the students with basic handling and operations in a Chemistry Lab in safety conditions.

Requirements

Basic knowledge in mathematics an calculus : decimal logarithms and their properties, 1st and 2nd degree equations, equation systems.

Contents

LIquid and solid state: phase diagrams. Soliution state laws. Colligative properties.
Chemical equilibrium: equilibrium constants in homogeneous and eterogenous systems.
Equilibria in water: acids and bases, pH and its calculations, hydrolisis, buffer solutions, solubility product.
Redox reactions and electrochemistry, standard potentials, Nernst equation, electrochemical cells.
Numerical exercises.
