Educational Goals
The aim of the module is, in tandem with the year-long lettorato,to help students to progress from a level around C1 of the Common European Framework (CEFR) towards the highest level, C2, which appears a reasonable objective for a specialist language graduate. It will provide students with practice in making presentations in a field of research of particular interest to her/him, and in writing, or preparing to write, a research article on the same theme for a specialized journal.
Requirements
Level C1 of the CEFR
Contents
The module will focus on the acquisition of skills closely connected to the CEFR, especially spoken production. Whereas the lettorato will be concerned primarily with communicative interaction, the module will offer students the chance to make multi-media presentations on topics chosen by them but which they think will be of interest to the group. A broad background area ('English today') is suggested - it can include the role of English today, varieties of English, contemporary literature in English, etc. Lessons will be a mixture of student-led seminars and (if the number of students attending make it possible) writing workshops.
Recommended Reading List
Since course themes will be chosen by students, there is no coursebook and no prescribed reading. Students should present their own bibliographies in connection with the presentations they choose to make.
Teaching Methods
Student led seminars. All presentations will be put on line (access limited to students following course)
