Educational Goals
To provide knowledge about petroleum, metals and some industrial processes.
Requirements
It is necessary that the students attended the courses General Chemistry and stoichiometry, Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry.
Contents
1-module. Oil origin, formation and extraction. Oil reserves, production and consumption. Oil composition, classification and evaluation. Property of the oil-products. Refineries. Topping. Vacuum distillation. Desulphurization. Refinery gas. Isomerization. Alkylation.
2-module. Metals: physical properties; chemical bond; crystal lattices; allotropic transformations; structures of real crystals; solidification; phases formed in metal alloys; equilibrium diagrams; diffusion; carburizing of carbon steel; nitriding of carbon steel; chemical properties of the metals: electrochemical corrosion; Nernst equation; galvanic cells; passivity.
