Educational Goals
Part two. From Baroque to Romantic age, trough the literary developement from Renaissance classicism to XVIIth century's experimentation, from XVIIth century's observations about student's role within society to post-revolutionary comparison with European Poetics. The lessons, following the criteria of first part, will offer a general picture of the historical-literary development and a selection of critical reflections on some precipous topics.
Requirements
it would be better that learners have some Knowledge of European history from the beginning of XVIIth Century to the half of XIXth Century.

Part two. Baroque and criticism: a troubling Concept. How XVIIth Century's literature changed Cinquecento's Classicism. Themes: from Tasso to Marino and Tassoni: developing Narrative plots from epics to parody. Lyrical poetry: the 'concettismo'. Scientific prose as mannered or practical writing: Galileo and Daniello Bartoli. The 'romanzo' as a new Genre. Reactions to Baroque; 'Arcadia' Academy; Gravina and Vico. The 'Società dei lumi' looking for a renewed intellectual Class. Theatre. Carlo Goldoni and the comedy. The tragedy from Scipione Maffei to Vittorio Alfieri. Giuseppe Parini. 'Ego' going to be subject of poetry: the late Arcadia, Alfieri, monti, Cesarotti. Preromantic and Romantic literature in Italy, tested by Historical developement: Foscolo, Berchet. The romanticismo, an unusual poetic. Postrevolutionary letters facing to History, Politics and Mankind: Manzoni and Leopardi.
