Educational Goals

An Introduction to the "Sendebar".
My lessons want to introduce to the study of medieval ‘via’ the direct experience of one text, that we shall read in its manuscript form. This year lessons concern the “Sendebar”: a translation from an arab collection of “exempla”.

Lessons offer a critical lecture of the “Sendebar” and the experience of a direct approach to an Old Spanish text directly in its manuscript form, and an introduction to study of Old Spanish language.

Assessment

Students must demonstrate that they know the entire text of the "Sendebar" in modern translation, and the original spanish text (all the sections studied during the lessons) . A cycle of lessons on Old Spanish shall be hold during the term; students who will not follow them must translate 20 texts chosen from ch. I-XII of “Antologia della letteratura spagnola”, I. “Dalle Origini al Quattrocento”, a c. di G. Caravaggi e A. D'Agostino, Milano, LED Edizioni, 1996 (this paper must be presented 15 days before the examination). Students in Portuguese Language and Literature mustc hoose a body of texts in this language. Examination will be in an oral form.
