Income requirements

To apply for a scholarship your annual income shall be lower than EUR 20.124,71 and your assets lower than EUR 26.413,70. These conditions are defined according to ISEE (Italian acronym for "Indicatore della Situazione Economica Equivalente", that is Equivalent Financial Position Indicator).

What is ISEE

ISEE (Italian acronym for "Indicatore della Situazione Economica Equivalente", that is Equivalent Financial Position Indicator) is an instrument used to measure the actual property and income position of citizens that apply for social services under favourable terms and is determined by combining and evaluating three elements: income, assets and composition of the household.

The applicant’s household is integral part of the household of his/her parents, unless both of the conditions indicated below apply:

  • the applicant has resided outside the living unit of the family of origin for at least 2 years, calculated with reference to the date of filing of the application, in a house that is not owned by one of his/her family members;
  • the applicant’s income from subordinate or similar employment, duly reported for tax purposes, for at least two years has been minimum EUR 6,500.00, with reference to a one-person household.

How to obtain the ISEE certificate

You should submit all of the documents required for tax purposes to one of the centres providing tax assistance services named CAF that has a special agreement with Ca' Foscari. The CAF will process, calculate and electronically transfer the documents to the database of INPS [Italian website], Italian initials for 'National Social Security Institute', as well as transmit to the University all the relevant data for compiling the lists of applicants and accordingly granting the benefits. CAFs provide all students with their services free of charge.

Please note that the University will carry out random checks on the accuracy of any self-certifications submitted, in compliance with the current regulations, on a yearly basis. Any misstatement, besides constituting a criminal offence, will bring about administrative penalties.

Important notice

Foreign students coming from a country with low human development do not need any ISEE certificate but should obtain a declaration from the competent authority.

To see if you meet the eligibility criteria you can simulate your ISEE value on www.inps.it/Servizi/ISEE [Italian website], keeping in mind that ISEE values resulting from this simulation are to be considered purely as an indication.
