CURRICULUM (English version)
Fabrizio Marrella is professor of International Law and European Union Law (IUS 12/E1, according to the Italian scientific sectors specialization title) at Cà Foscari University of Venice and the Dean of the Human Rights Village (HRV) of the European Inter-university Center for Human rights and Democratisation (EIUC).
He teaches the courses of Advanced International Law, European Union Law and International Business Law.
He advises on the same matters (particularly on Arbitration) and his scholarly writings have been cited by Courts, arbitration tribunals and commentators, including arbitral panels deciding cases under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce and other major international arbitration centers.
Prof. Marrella joined Cà Foscari University of Venice in 1998 and since then he has served in various capacities including that of Head of studies of the Laurea Magistrale in International Relations (second cycle degree programme) within the School of International Relations. In 2007 and 2008, he was vice-Director of the Harvard University-Venice program where he taught International Business Law and he currently serves as academic coordinator of several ERASMUS exchange programmes of Cà Foscari University. He is presently the Director of the Master programme in International Business, Arbitration and Tax Law as well as (on behalf of EIUC) of the Master programme in Democratic Governance.
At EIUC he was appointed as a member of its first Board of Directors when the Center was founded in 2002. From August 2008 until July 2011 he served as the European Programme Director of the E.MA Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation and now as the Dean of the HRV. In those capacities he has contributed to make EIUC as a world renowned centre of excellence.
He is Fellow (Membre Associé) of the Institut de Recherche en Droit International et Européen de La Sorbonne (IREDIES, Université de Paris I - Panthéon Sorbonne) in Paris, France and has participated in several international symposia. Prof. Marrella has given invited lectures at a range of Universities and professional organisations of the five continents including Europe (inter alia: University of Paris I-Panthéon Sorbonne, Paris II Panthéon Assas, IHEAL – University of Paris III La Sorbonne Nouvelle; Paris Ouest Nanterre La Dèfense; Berlin, Coimbra, EUI-Florence, Milan, Naples, Rome, Padua, Palermo, Strasbourg, Turin, Trento, Vienna, Verona, Lecce (ISUFI) and Bologna); the U.S.A. (Columbia University, Harvard University and Vanderbilt University); China: China University of Political Science and Law (Beijing); Russia (including: Moscow University (PFUR), MGIMO, RGGU), as well as, in other countries: Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico; UNIFOR and Universidade Federal do Parà (Brazil); Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina); Istanbul Kemerburgaz University School of Law (Turkey).
Prof. Marrella holds the highest Doctorates in Law with top grades (summa cum laude) both from the University of Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne and the University of Bologna. In 1998, he was awarded the Diploma of The Hague Academy of International Law. He is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Italian.
On June 2012, he was rapporteur on "European Union Law and Foreign Direct Investment" at the yearly national symposium of the Italian Society of International Law (SIDI/ISIL) in Genes (the proceedings are forthcoming in 2013).
In recognition of his achievements in the field, Prof. Marrella received from the Curatorium of The Hague Academy of International Law the official invitation to deliver his course in the 2013 session of Private International Law of the Academy. His conferences will be published in the Collected courses of The Hague Academy of International Law in 2014.
Prof. Marrella’s main research interests within International Law cover topics of International Business & Trade Law, International Commercial and Investment Arbitration, as well as the growing field of Business and Human Rights.
He is General editor of the EIUC studies on Human rights and Democratisation edited by Cambridge University Press and serves in the scientific or advisory board of specialised journals such as the Journal of International Trade Law and Policy (Emerald, London, U.K.); Contratto e impresa (CEDAM, Padua, Italy); Contratto e impresa/Europa (CEDAM, Padua, Italy); Rivista dell'arbitrato (Giuffré, Milan-Rome, Italy); European Yearbook on Human Rights (Vienna, Graz, Berlin); International Constitutional Law (Vienna); Diritto internazionale e diritti umani (Il Mulino, Bologna).

Dal 1/11/2005 Professore universitario di II fascia (confermato in ruolo nel 2008) di Diritto internazionale e dell'Unione europea (s.s.d. 12/E1) presso l'Università "Cà Foscari" Venezia. Titolare dei corsi di Diritto internazionale avanzato, Diritto dell'Unione europea avanzato e Diritto del commercio internazionale presso la stessa Università.

Dal settembre 2011 è stato nominato Dean (HRV) presso lo European Inter-university Center for Human rights and Democratisation (EIUC), ove ha ricoperto precedentemente la carica di componente del suo primo Consiglio di amministrazione (2002-2008) e di coordinatore europeo del Master europeo in Diritti umani e democratizzazione (E.MA 2008-2011).
E' Direttore del Master in Commercio, fiscalità ed arbitrato internazionale/International Business, Arbitration and Tax Law, nonché del Master programme in Democratic Governance nell'ambito dell'EIUC/Global Campus of Regional Masters, .
Membro del Collegio dei docenti del Dottorato di ricerca in Diritto europeo dei contratti civili, commerciali e del lavoro (fino a marzo 2013) e del Collegio dei docenti del Dottorato in Diritti, persona, mercati (da aprile 2013-). E' stato più volte componente di commissioni di esame finale di dottorato di ricerca presso Università italiane e straniere.
Nel 2007 e nel 2008, è stato vice-Direttore dell' Harvard University-Cà Foscari Venice program dove ha insegnato International Business Law. Attualmente è coordinatore accademico di numerosi accordi ERASMUS per l'Università Cà Foscari.
In precedenza è stato Lecteur presso l'Université de Paris II Panthéon Assas, Chargé de cours (Droit du commerce international) presso l'IHEAL (Institut des Hautes Etudes sur l'Amérique Latine) dell'Université Paris III La Sorbonne Nouvelle, nonché Professeur invité presso l'Università di Strasburgo (Institut des Hautes Etudes Européennes).

Gli interessi di ricerca del Prof. Marrella hanno principalmente per oggetto la struttura generale e le dinamiche applicative del diritto internazionale e del diritto dell'Unione europea con particolare riferimento all'ordinamento italiano e della UE ed alle tematiche dell'arbitrato, del diritto del commercio internazionale e del diritto internazionale degli investimenti. In quest'ottica si inseriscono anche le ricerche in materia di diritti umani, alla luce delle particolari problematiche suscitate dalla globalizzazione economica.

A coronamento delle sue attività nel campo del Diritto internazionale, il Prof. Marrella ha ricevuto l'invito ufficiale dal Curatorium dell'Accademia di Diritto internazionale dell'Aja a tenere un ciclo di conferenze nel 2013, nella sessione di diritto internazionale privato, e a pubblicare il suo scritto nel celebre Recueil des Cours de l’Académie de droit International/Collected Courses of The Hague Academy of International Law.
