Reduced university fees

Under certain circumstances the University tuition and fees owed may be reduced on the basis of:
- the student’s income situation;
- the student’s academic achievements (independently of income situation);
- a combination of both factors (academic achievements and income situation).

Fees reduction based on income situation

In order to qualify for a reduction in university tuition and fees based on the student’s income situation the following conditions must be met:

  • be enrolled in the academic year 2011/2012, and have paid the first instalment of university fees by the deadline of October 14th, 2011 (or by December 21st, 2011 with the payment of EUR 50.00 for the late payment penalty surcharge), with the exception of students enrolling in the first year of a Second Cycle Degree Programme, who may pay the first instalment by December 21st, 2011 without being subject to the late payment penalty surcharge;
  • have requested and obtained the ISEE ('Indicatore della Situazione Economica Equivalente', Indicator of the Equivalent Financial Position) certificate by October 14th, 2011 from a CAF that has a special agreement with Ca' Foscari (or by December 21st, 2011 with the payment of EUR 50.00 for the late payment penalty surcharge), with the following exceptions:
    • students enrolling in their first year may submit ISEE certificate for the academic year 2011/2012 by December 21st, 2011 without being subject to the late payment penalty surcharge;
    • for transfer students coming from another university, the deadline for submitting ISEE certificate for the academic year 2011/2012 is February 3rd, 2012; the first instalment of university tuition and fees is also due by February 3rd, 2012;
    • for students who submitted the graduation application form in the extraordinary session of 2010/2011 and subsequently withdrew their application, the deadline for submitting the ISEE certificate for the academic year 2011/2012 is March 30th, 2012 and the first instalment of university tuition and fees is also due by March 30tht, 2012 (in this case the penalty surcharge of EUR 200.00 must also be paid).
    ISEE certificates not submitted by the deadlines mentioned above will not be taken into consideration for obtaining a reduction in university fees. In addition, these certificates are nonetheless subject to the payment of EUR 50.00 for the penalty surcharge;
  • have an ISEE value that is equal to or less than EUR 39,999.99;
  • not hold a degree started before Ministerial Decree 509/99 (i.e. belonging to the so-called 'Vecchio Ordinamento'), or a four year (or longer) foreign degree, nor hold any other Second Cycle Degree Programme or a second-level academic diploma granted according to Ministerial Decree 508/1999;
  • hold the minimum university credits listed below by December 31st, 2011. In the table below “Years” refers to the number of years the student has enrolled in the programme starting with the year he or she first enrolled (including enrolments made in the first year of a Second Cycle Degree Programme for the first time in any University, for example students who transferred to Ca’ Foscari from another university or have made an internal transfer from another Ca’ Foscari degree programme):

Such fees reduction is calculated automatically and is applied to the amount due in the second instalment. The student does not need to make any request for this reduction.
The award for academic achievements is standard for all students and fees will be reduced by EUR 315.00 (for part-time students: EUR 204.75). The following categories of students qualify for reduced fees based on academic achievements::

  • students enrolling in their first year of their Second Cycle Degree Programme whose First Cycle Degree final mark was:
    • Economics: from 108 to 110 with honours;
    • Foreign Languages and Literatures: 110 or 110 with honours;
    • Humanities: 110 or 110 with honours;
    • Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences: from 108 to 110 with honours.
  • students enrolling in subsequent years of their Second Cycle Degree Programme who meet both of the following conditions:
    1. have obtained by December 31st, 2011 the pre-determined number of university credits (CFUs) shown in the table below. These credits must have been earned for courses that are part of the degree programme the student is enrolled in and subsequent to the date he or she first enrolled in it. If the student has made an internal transfer from one Ca’ Foscari degree programme to another, any credits earned in the preceding programme may be counted:

    2. have achieved the established level of quality as shown by their mark average (for each educational area the full range of marks will be taken into consideration in determining the students’ average; each educational area sets its own minimum standard for the level of quality necessary in order for the student to be recognised on the basis of academic achievements):
      • Economics: 29/30 or higher;
      • Foreign Languages and Literatures: 30/30 or higher;
      • Humanities: 30/30 or higher;
      • Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences: 29/30 or higher.
    3. In quantifying academic achievements, exams that were recognised as belonging to a preceding degree programme, whether the programme was completed with the achievement of the final degree or not completed because of withdrawal or loss of student status, will NOT be considered.

In order to qualify for the fees reduction based on academic achievements, the student must not hold a degree from a degree programme started before Ministerial Decree 509/99 (i.e. belonging to the so-called 'Vecchio Ordinamento'), or from a foreign degree programme that is four years or longer, nor hold any other Second Cycle Degree, or a second-level academic diploma granted according to Ministerial Decree 508/1999.

25% reduction for enrolment in a Second Cycle Degree Programme

Students who were enrolled in a First Cycle Degree Programme at Ca’ Foscari and completed the programme in the timeframe established for it and who were awarded the degree in the first graduation session of the third year (the summer session) are entitled to a reduction of 25% in the university fees (excluding the minimum enrolment fee, the regional tax for financial aid and the tax stamp) if they enrol in a Second Cycle Degree Programme at Ca’ Foscari by or during the subsequent academic year.

Students who participated in an Erasmus exchange and were granted university credits for it can also qualify, even if their degree was awarded in the second or third graduation session of the third year of their programme.
This reduction in fees is not available to students who were granted university credits that resulted in shortening the duration of their degree programme (course curtailment).

The reduction in the amount of university fees will be applied automatically to the second instalment. The student is not required to make a specific request for the reduction.

Speed incentive

Students who have earned the established number of university credits listed in the table below by December 31st, 2011 are entitled to a reduction in university fees of EUR 100.00; this award cannot be combined with the fees reduction for academic achievements:

Disabled students with an invalidity between 50% and 65%

Those students who have handicaps where the invalidity has been recognised to be between 50% and 65% are entitled to reduced university fees, as long as the following conditions are met:

  • the student submits an ISEE certifying his or her income situation is equal to or less than EUR 39,999.99;
  • the student has achieved the required academic achievements necessary to obtain a reduction in university fees.

In this case the amount fees are reduced by will be equal to that applied for the income category immediately below the income category the student actually qualifies for.
Those students who have handicaps where the invalidity has been recognised to be equal to or greater than 66% are exempt from paying all university tuition and fees.

Family incentive (more than one child enrolled at Ca' Foscari)

Starting from the 2011/2012 a.y., students enrolling in the first programme year, who have at least a brother/sister already enrolled in a First or Second Cycle Degree Programme at Ca’ Foscari University, can take advantage of a flat rate fee reduction of EUR 200.00.

In order to qualify for this fee reduction, the following conditions must be met:

  • the enrolled brothers/sisters must have regularly paid out university fees for the academic year in which the applicant asks for the reduction;
  • both the applicant and his/her siblings must be dependent children of the same family;
  • the reduction is reserved to the students who have an income situation (certified by the ISEE) equal or lower than EUR 39.999,99 and meet the minimum merit requirements according to the university contribution system in force;
  • the reduction is awarded  by handing in by December 21st, 2011, to the Financial Aid Office, the paper copy of the ISEE certification issued by the CAF and a self-certification of the fact that one or more siblings, already enrolled at Ca’ Foscari, belong to the applicant’s family.

Please note that:

  • such fee reduction can be added to other ones based on merit/income situation according to the university contribution system in force; students who are exempted from university fees (i.e. students who are beneficiaries of or qualified to receive a regional scholarship or students with a disability level equal to or higher than 66%) cannot take advantage of such fee reduction. In any case and all benefits applicable considered, the reduction cannot be higher than the minimum amount of the first level of university tuition and fees based on the ISEE value;
  • in case more than one sibling enrol in the first programme year in the same a.y., only one of them can qualify for such fee reduction.
