Ca’ Foscari University of Venice is one of the best universities in Italy and the first to implement the latest Italian university reform. Departments

The new 8 Departments are the heart of the university: as a matter of fact they promote, coordinate and organize teaching and research activities of the educational programmes they are responsible for. Following the latest university reform in effect at Ca' Foscari since the academic year 2011/2012 and the resulting abolition of Faculties, the new Departments have come to take a key role in the university system, also through the decentralization of many administrative and financial procedures.

  • Department of Asian and North African Studies

    It offers comprehensive, in-depth programmes for the study of classical and modern Eastern languages within their cultural, religious, artistic, social and historical contexts. A particular emphasis is placed on examining the political, economic and legal systems of Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, since an intimate cultural and social understanding is fundamental to accurate and effective communication.
  • Department of Economics

    Graduates from this Department are able to operate with flexibility in the complex global economic environment. The main study and research areas include not only economics and finance, but also legal and social issues, as well as quantitative analysis and development of decision making tools.
  • Department of Environmental Sciences, Informatics and Statistics

    It provides innovative approaches to the analysis and management of information and environmental systems, underpinning sustainable development and preservation of the cultural heritage.
  • Department of Humanities

    It is an innovative department for the development of interdisciplinary programmes concerning the various humanistic subjects: history, archaeology, art history, classical and Middle Eastern studies, as well as Medieval Latin, Romance and Byzantine studies, Italian studies, linguistics, religious studies, geography, philology, communication and text sciences.
  • Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies

    It focuses on the study of linguistics, foreign languages and cultures, taking account of their contacts and development within and among larger complex cultural systems. Comparative linguistics and cultural studies are key intellectual tools for research of a theoretical nature, as well as for a concrete understanding of our increasingly more multilingual and multicultural societies.
  • Department of Management

    It develops scientific knowledge and skills for the management of companies of any size, type and field of activity. Classroom study is integrated with counselling and tutorials focusing upon development of entrepreneurship and leadership for new enterprises.
  • Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems

    It combines traditional areas in the field of chemistry and integrated studies on renewable energy sources, green chemistry, nanotechnologies and biotechnologies.
  • Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage

    It focuses on the relationships between philosophy and social, psychological, cognitive, anthropological and pedagogical sciences. Moreover it includes historical, art historical and cultural research, dealing with conservation, maintenance and management of the cultural heritage.

 

Schools

The new 4 Interdepartmental Schools contribuite to plan and organize study and research activities related to interdisciplinary programmes. Two or more Departments participate in each School.

  • School of Asian Studies and Business Management

    It offers innovative programmes combining linguistic and cultural knowledge of Asian and North African cultures and skills in business administration.
  • School of Cultural Production and Conservation of the Cultural Heritage

    It offers interdisciplinary programmes within the branches of cultural production and performing arts, conservation and protection of the cultural heritage, restoration technologies, economics and management of cultural activities.
  • School of International Relations

    It focuses on the field of international relations and allows students to develop linguistic skills and knowledge of economics, law, and politics.
  • School of Social Work and Public Policies

    It focuses on the various fields of social sciences, public service and multicultural studies.

  • School of Economics, Languages and Entrepreneurship

    Based in Treviso, a branch campus of Ca' Foscari University, it deals with specific economic-linguistic sectors, such as international trade and entrepreneurship, linguistic and cultural mediation, interpreting and translation.
  • School of Sustainability of Environmental and Tourism Systems

    It integrates knowledge in scientific, economic and cultural fields necessary for approaching the challenging global environment.

  • Ca’ Foscari Challenge School (CFCS)

    It coordinates continuing education programmes (Specialist Master’s Programmes and other advanced training courses): postgraduate programmes, usually addressed to fresh graduates; executive programmes, addressed to individuals who are already in the work market and are looking for new competences; MBA/DBA, for people who already have an educational and professional experience and wish to acquire managerial skills; other educational opportunities to develop specific skills, including the use of new media.
  • Ca’ Foscari Summer School (CFSS)

    It promotes, manages and coordinates summer/autumn intensive educational activities for both Ca’ Foscari students and other Italian and international students.
  • Ca' Foscari Graduate School

    It coordinates Research Doctorates (PhD programmes), covering several fields for which Ca’ Foscari research and excellence is globally well-known.
