Ca' Foscari students for the EU-China tourism year

2018 will be the EU-China tourism year, an initiative promoted by the European Commission to promote different touristic destinations, to develop the European offer and to facilitate Chinese investments in the EU.

The year will open on January 19th at the Doge’s Palace with the presence of the Italian Minister for Cultural Heritage,  Dario Franceschini.

The best students in Chinese were selected at Ca’ Foscari to support the inauguration as translators, interpreters and cultural mediators.

These 11 students can boast linguistic but also economic, legal and management education and training as enrolled students in Language and management to China, Editorial Interpreting and Translation, Language and Civilisation of Asia and Mediterranean Africa, and Language, society and institutions of contemporary China.

Ca’ Foscari has developed a strong relation with China: “We have a partnership with the town of Suzhou and last February the University opened an international office at the Suzhou University, the first official office of the university abroad, Tiziana Lippiello, vice provost for the International Relations, explained. We have also created a joint degree with this university”.

1891 students have chosen to study Chinese as a first or second language within Bachelr’s and Master’s programmes at Ca’ Foscari since 2013, whereas 95 students have come from China this academic year through Overseas programmes, joining more than 400 Chinese students who have visited Ca’ Foscari since 2012.

The Marco Polo project is another virtuous example of the relations that Ca’ Foscari have with China: about fifty Chinese students came to Venice to study Italian for its second edition.

Last but not least, Ca’ Foscari has been hosting the headquarters of the Confucius Institute since 2008, under the supervision of the Hanban, aiming at organizing Chinese language courses as well as activities which support and increase the knowledge of ancient and modern Chinese culture, heritage and society.
