Ca’ Foscari is participating in the fourteenth edition of Rai Radio’s ‘Caterpillar’ show’s ‘M’illumino di meno’ initiative, which promotes energy saving and environmental sustainability.

This year’s edition is dedicated to the benefits of walking. The initiatives of the programme are among those promoted within ‘Hunt on Kilowatts’ organised by the Italian Network of Universities for Sustainable Development (RUS), which is made up of 55 Italian Universities.

‘Changing the pace’ is a walk open to the entire university and community, organised by universities to promote sustainable lifestyles and reduce our impact on the environment. It will take place on Thursday 22nd February 2018.

The meeting point is the courtyard of the main Ca’ Foscari building at 5.45pm. The walk will be about 3 km long and will pass through some of the university buildings. It will finish at the chiostro della sede centrale at the Luav University of Venice in Tolentini at 7pm. This event is one of many initiatives that the universities are carrying out to raise awareness among students, university staff, and the local community of how easily energy resources could be saved.

PROGRAMME FOR THE WALK:

5.45pm: Meet at Ca’ Foscari main building (Dosoduro 3246) and turning off power.

6.00pm: Departure of the ‘Changing the pace’ walk, towards the Ca’ Foscari building at Zattere.

6.30pm: Arrival at the IUAV building at Santa Marta to watch the lights being turned off.

7.00pm: Arrival at the Chiostro in Tolentini. Here, in the presence of the rectos or their delegates and the Sustainability Organisations of both Venetian Universities, the lights in the library and the rooms overlooking the Chiostro will be switched off.

At the end: Aperitif under candle light for all participants at Tolentini.

CA’ FOSCARI COLLATERAL INITIATIVES in collaboration with the DVRI- Venice District of Research and Innovation:

Competition of ideas to make Ca’ Foscari more sustainable. The entire Ca’ Foscari community, teachers, staff, and students can propose one or more ideas until February 23rd 2018 to make the university more sustainable in terms of energy consumption. The proposals will be judged by a team of experts who will evaluate the feasibility, the impact on consumption reduction, and the level of community involvement. The best idea that meets these requirements will receive a sustainability award. For more information:  sostenibile@unive.it

Candle lit lessons: Professors with lessons between February 19th and 23rd will be invited to participate in 15 minutes with no energy use, during which all lights and electronic devices will be turned off, and lessons will be carried out under candle light. This is a symbolic gesture that will make students more aware of issues relating to energy consumption and sustainability.

Social campaign: Between 19th and 23rd February, a communication campaign will be held on Ca’ Foscari’s main social networks (Facebook and Twitter), by giving practical advice and tips to promote sustainable actions.Every day an action will be promoted that can reduce energy consumption and the impact on the environment. Simple gestures that if put into practise every day, can contribute to reducing energy waste, helping the environment.
