After witnessing an act of brutal violence, a filmmaker goes undercover in India’s toughest medical school to investigate rising acts of violence among some of the best minds in the nation. Four students agree to be filmed for a year as a part of this investigative experiment.

This is the premise of Placebo, a fascinating mixed media documentary by young Indian filmmaker Abhay Kumar, who will be attending the event which will be screened at CFZ – Cultural Flow Zone on Monday October 24th at 7 pm.

The film, which has been described by Man Booker Prize Winner Arundhati Roy as “important, deeply moving and stunningly made”, has already earned accolades from several international movie festivals, such as the awards for Best Film and Best Editing in the International Competition of the Mumbai International Film Festival 2016, the Jury Award at the EBS International Documentary Festival 2015 in Seoul, and the jury nomination for best debut at the International documentary Festival of Amsterdam (IDFA 2014).

Placebo is a dark yet fascinating journey through the celebrated hallways of excellence, carved by ambition and success- and those who pass through it must battle monsters; both externally and within. What the world outside sees as success is only a grand start to the battle which lies ahead. Placebo thus becomes a raw, intimate portrait of the 'dystopia of the Indian higher education system'.
