After the success of the United Nationals simulation that took place last year - the first in Venice for university students – this year, in the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, students from Ca’ Foscari, IUAV, VIU, University of Padova and University “Tor Vergata” in Rome will take part in a Model European Union, that will reproduce the operations of the European Union.

Over three days from 5th – 7th May at the Venice International University (VIU) building on the island of San Servolo, the delegates will be able to act as MEP, members of the European Council or Press Secretaries, learning, through group work, the procedures for basic legislation of the European Union. For students it is a perfect occasion to understand how international diplomatic relations work and to develop abilities of negotiation and leadership, putting their public speaking to the test.

Amongst the topics under discussion at the Venice University Model European Union (VeUMEU), there will be policies to fight climate change, renewable energy and the European directive for equal treatment of all European citizens, regardless of religion, disability, age or sexual orientation.

Students that are interested can apply until 30th March 2017, filling in a form through the Venice International University website. There will be a preparatory workshop, organized by Ca’ Foscari’s Internship Office and the non-profit Venice Diplomatic Society, which will take place on Saturday 8th April at the VIU building from 9am to 4pm.

The VeUMEU is organized by Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Venice International University (VIU) and Venice Diplomatic Society (VDS), in collaboration with the BETA Association in Italy and the Europe Direct help desk of the City of Venice.
