The seventh edition of Art Night Venezia begun with the traditional opening of the gates of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

The event was conceived and coordinated by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice together with the City of Venice and has now long been part of the official calendar of the European art Nights.

A hundred venues around town has offered free events throughout the evening. PROGRAMME

“Art Night is a small miracle - said the Rector of Ca' Foscari University of Venice Michele Bugliesi during his inauguration speech - Gathering 100 Venetian institutions is a difficult task. Art Night proves that Venice is alive, a city where tonight we can walk around to enjoy all types of events. I want to thank the City of Venice first of all for its long-standing support to the initiative”.

Silvia Burini, professor at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and scientific direction of Art Night, intervened with Vice-rector Flavio Gregori in the occasion of the official opening of the event.

Paola Mar, city councillor for Tourism, intervened for the city of Venice.

The first Art Night event was the 'Reading Attack': in the Ca’ Foscari courtyard, readers presented a text from Sergio Bettini’s ‘Venezia – nascita di una città’ and then wandered in the city to stop at the Art Night seats, take part in the events and read outloud a text of their choice. The exhibitions held at Ca’ Foscari, “VALERY KOSHLYAKOV- We have never stopped building utopia” curated by Danilo Eccher, “Hybris and monsters in contemporary art”, and Antonio Nocera’s 'Inside Love Love Inside' were opened until late hours, while from 5pm kids will be able to enjoy “A tutto cartone”, the creative workshop dedicated to the exhibition  “VALERY KOSHLYAKOV- We have never stopped building utopia”. At 7pm, the second print edition of the cultural magazine PriZma was presented in the Niobe garden. At 8.30pm the performance “NOSTRO!” by artists Alvise Bittente and Marco Brosolo. There also were evening guided tours of the university historic seat held by Ca’ Foscari Tour with theatrical readings from Cantiere Teatro Ca’ Foscari that gave their voice back to the most fascinating characters of Ca’ Foscari’s history. The grand finale was held at Ca’ Foscari seat at 10.30pm with a site-specific video-installation created for the occasion by AES+F: “PSYCHOSIS “ was inspired by Sarah Kane’s last theatrical work, 4.48 psychosis, and characterized by the British playwright's unique visionary hyperrealism, a new monumental story telling regarding women brought to a point of hysteria.

The whole city and its calli and campielli was lively with free opening of museums, foundations, galleries, bookshops, institutions, theatres, and cultural associations. Hundreds of institutions were involved and hundreds of events were planned, from Punta della Dogana to the Musei Civici, Casa dei Tre Oci, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Palazzo Cini, Fondazione Querini Stampalia, just to name a few of the institutions that were open during the Art Night. Many workshops and creative laboratories targeted kids, in many venues of the city center, Music was not missing with interesting events and exhibitions, Art Night shed light on art and culture to nurture curiosity and interests of all ages.

After last year’s success, this edition included an evening on the following day: on Sunday June 18th from 9am to 1pm, “Le petit déjeuner en blu - Indigo Mix Jacquard Malìparmi”, was organized by Ca’ Foscari in the beautiful island of San Servolo with guest Simone Rugiati, famous cook and television anchor in the Italian programme “Cuochi & Fiamme”.
