Data science and society, Quattrochiocchi will develop research at Ca’ Foscari

Walter Quattrociocchi, internationally renowned researcher for his studies on online disinformation, will be part of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Informatics and Statistics at Ca’ Foscari, where he will fund the Laboratory of Data Science and Complexity to develop and further explore social dynamics within social networks with his team of young researchers.

“Data science is a very important tool to understand our society and the complexity that surrounds us - explains Walter Quattrochiocchi - The key is interdisciplinarity and Venice with ideal historic and social roots is the perfect place to launch a new center in this direction”.

Quattrociocchi, 37 years old, was the coordinator of the CSSLab (Laboratory of Computational Social Science) of the IMT School for Advanced Studies in Lucca, after working at the Institute for cognitive sciences and technology of the Cnr and at the Mobs Lab at the Northeastern University. He has published more than 60 articles on prestigious international scientific journals.

His results were used in the Global Risk Report of the World Economic Forum in 2016 and 2017 and received significant press coverage in scientific journals and general media such as the Economist, Fortune, Washington Post, the New York Times, The Atlantic, Scientific American (translated in 5 languages), New Scientist, Sette. He was asked by the president of the Chamber of Deputies Boldrini to direct a report on fake news and collaborates actively with Italian and international institutions on social dynamics induced by new medias.
