Thesis and final exam deadlines

29th cycle students (and 28th cycle with annual extension)

  • Submission of final exam request: from September 1st to 12nd, 2016
  • Upload of an advanced draft of the final thesis (subject to the evaluators' judgment): from September 16th to October 2nd, 2016
  • Upload evaluators' judgment: from October 4th to November 14th, 2016
  • Display evaluators' judgment: from November 23rd to December 4th, 2016
  • Upload of final version of thesis for similarity check and registration of thesis: from December 5th to 12nd, 2016
  • Handing in of a paper copy of the thesis: before January 16th, 2017
  • Final exam session: from January 19th to March 28th, 2017

Only for "History of Arts" and "Ancient Heritage Studies" Phd students (who terminate their courses on November 2016):

  • Submission of final exam request: from November 22nd to December 2nd, 2016
  • Upload of an advanced draft of the final thesis (subject to the evaluators' judgment): from December 6th to 21st, 2016
  • Upload evaluators' judgment: from December 22nd, 2016 to February 1st, 2017
  • Display evaluators' judgment: from February 13rd to 24th, 2017
  • Upload of final version of thesis for similarity check and registration of thesis: from February 27th to March 6th, 2017
  • Handing in of a paper copy of the thesis: before March 26th, 2017
  • Final exam session: from April 3rd to May 3rd, 2017

29th cycle students with six months extension

  • Submission of final exam request: from February 13rd to 27th, 2017
  • Upload of an advanced draft of the final thesis (subject to the evaluators' judgment): from March 3rd to 20th, 2017
  • Upload evaluators' judgment: from March 22nd to May 2nd, 2017
  • Display evaluators' judgment: from May 10th to 21st, 2017
  • Upload of final version of thesis for similarity check and registration of thesis: from May 22nd to 31st, 2017
  • Handing in of a paper copy of the thesis: before June 30th, 2017
  • Final exam session: from July 3rd to September 15th, 2017

(*) PhD Students enrolled in PhD programme "Ancient Heritage Studies" and "History of Arts" 29th cycle are advised to consult their Secretariat of PhD Programmes to know the exact deadlines.

Final exam request: how to apply

Doctoral students must apply for their final thesis exam online within the deadlines indicated.

This is done by accessing your Reserved area on the University website and clicking on: Student Services - ESSE3 > Degree > Degree exam.

Before applying to your final thesis exam, you must:

  • be up-to-date with your student fees and, if benefiting from an extension, have paid the € 100.00 return from suspension status fee;
  • complete the Almalaurea questionnaire and attached the receipt.

Having completed the online procedure, students must pay € 16.00 stamp duty in the “Pagamenti” section ("Payment"), using a Visa or MasterCard prepaid or credit card.

Thesis evaluation

PhD students admitted to the final exam procedure must submit their thesis to the evaluation of two external reviewers identified by the Teaching Board of the PhD programme.

The evaluators will express an analytical written judgment on the thesis and propose the admission to the discussion or not, for a period not exceeding 6 months if significant additions or corrections are necessary.

After this period, thesis will in any case admitted to discussion, accompanied by a new written opinion of such evaluators, written after the corrections or additions that may have occurred.

Thesis evaluation software

The PhD student will receive an email automatically sent which will inform him whether or not he has admitted to the procedure of the thesis evaluation by the Teaching Board of the PhD course.

By the above-mentioned deadline, the student will have to proceed with the upload of the thesis to the appropriate software by logging in with his credentials (registration number and password combination).

File of the thesis uploaded must be in PDF format and its size should not be larger than 10 MB, similar to the size required for the final thesis file, which must be submitted to the similarities verification software. Contacts

Together with the thesis, the PhD student will have to upload a report on activities of the PhD Programme and on publications, preferably prepared according to the downloadable format annexed to this web page.
By deadline, both files can be uploaded / modified.

It is also required to PhD student, at this stage, to upload his own publications in ARCA catalogue, following the warnings posted [IT].

At the conclusion of the evaluation procedure, the student will receive an email automatically sent which will inform him if he is admitted or not the final discussion.
In case of admission, the student must proceed with the upload of the final thesis in the area reserved in expected ways [IT].
