The ITES Master’s Degree programme aims to shape professionals endowed with specific linguistic skills in the field of interpreting and translation, whether specialised or literary, enabling them to use informatic techniques and tools for assisted translation. The study language is standard chinese, with combinations of chinese-english and chinese-italian; furthermore understanding of Cantonese at an elementary level is required. Translation studies, understood not only as communication but also as a main form of mediation, confronts the most different linguistic/literary and socio-cultural topics, from an intercultural and comparative point of view.

In the degree programme, students learn to analyse and translate texts of a sectorial, literary and editorial nature in chinese/italian; translating multimedia texts (website, audiovisual subtitles, locationing etc..); carry out activities related to liaison interpreting, consecutive and whispered interpretation in negotiations, company visits, talks etc.

Furthermore, they will develop communicative skills aimed at managing complex relations in international professional contexts: deepening understanding of the principal interpreting techniques and the different theoretical approaches to translation: they are guided towards research in translating fields and towards the acquisition of a correct deontological approach to the profession. In general, they will learn how to manage complex techno-professional activities and projects and understand the intercultural and interlinguistic dynamics in which they will operate in both professional and academic environments.

Admission process and required competence

This Master's degree programme is of open admission.

Matriculation is subject to the possession of specific curricular requirements and of suitable personal preparation.

If you possess a non-Italian study qualification, the first compulsory step is the pre-evaluation of the qualification: it is sufficient to register in the apply.unive.it portal, choosing the study programme that interests you and loading the required documentation. After around 15 days, the Welcome Unit of the International Office will give you feedback on your application.

If you are a non-EU student resident abroad, the Welcome Unit of the International Office will organize a skype call to replace the admissions test. The appointment for the Skype call will be made through the apply.unive.it portal.
