Spatial Health Econometrics

In health economics there are many phenomena that are characterised by a strong spatial dimension; from heathcare providers connected through networks of services and patients, to the regional concentration of health risk factors and needs. The aim of the course is to introduce students to theory and application of spatial econometrics methods in the area of health economics.
In the first part of the course students will familiarize with spatial econometric models in health economics and illustrate how to incorporate spatial effects using standard econometric models, such as the spatial lag, spatial error and spatial Durbin models. The lecturer will show how spatial econometrics methods can be applied within the health economics literature on topics such as hospital competition, mental health expenditure, health outcomes, long-term care, and peer effects.
In the second part of the course students will be able to attend a workshop of spatial health econometrics and be exposed to the most updated work in this strand of health economics.
The target of students will be master degree students, PhD, post doc, and early career researchers.

Applications
The Summer School is open to a maximum of 20 participants. The target of students will be master degree students, PhD, post doc, and early career researchers. There is no participation fee but attendees will need to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses (List of selected hotels, B&B ).
Participants will be selected on the basis of their CV and motivation letters. A Certificate of Attendance will be provided at the end.
Deadline for application is the 25th of May 2022 at 12.00. Applications must be submitted by e-mail to the following address veraschool@unive.it. Results will be communicated by the 30th of May 2022.
Candidates will need to provide the following documents as part of their application:
- application form;
- dated and signed curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages);
- motivation letter (maximum 1 page);
- scanned copy of a valid ID document.
