“If I love you, I care”. Reflections on Race, Migration, Emotions
Ciclo di seminari
Ruba Salih, SOAS, University of London
Discussant: Francesco Della Puppa, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice
Emotions and feelings in relation to migration seem to have been crucial
in shaping the coming to power of white nationalist parties, as well as in
political events such as Brexit. In this lecture, Ruba Salih reflects on how
migration and diaspora can be read through related economies of desire
and fear. Drawing on a variety of scattered and yet connected examples,
she explores the role of feelings such as fears, desires, suffering and
aspirations - and the ethical moral and political dimensions of emotions -
to nuance our understanding of migration, diaspora and displacement.
The meeting will be held in English language on Zoom platform.
