Chance’s Game – a Tribute to Wisława Szymborska

Teatro Ca’ Foscari a Santa Marta

“Chance looks us straight in the eyes.” From this line springs Scenari DiVersi’s tribute to Wisława Szymborska, the Polish poet who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1996.

The Game of Chance is an original one-act play that follows a group of Polish-language students as they “play with chance,” just as Szymborska loved to do in her famous lotteries of odds and ends. Some of her most beautiful poems accompany the students’ everyday and university lives, in a performance that does not claim to offer anything new about the poet, but instead pays her a warm and playful homage.

The event is part of Scenari DiVersi, a student-led project that brings poetry to the stage through theatrical events blending interpretation and storytelling. With the support of ESU Venezia, from November 2025 to April 2026 the students of the Department of Linguistic and Cultural Comparative Studies will present a series of monthly events hosted at the Ca’ Foscari Theatre in Santa Marta, dedicated to poets and writers from different linguistic traditions.

Scientific advisor for this event: Prof. Francesca Fornari.
