Models of data extraction and architecture in relational databases of early modern private archives

Aula Baratto (con collegamento online)

International Conference
October 27-28, 2022
University Ca’ Foscari of Venice
Aula Baratto

The conference’s focus will be mainly (but not exclusively) on private archives being part of an ongoing project: The Nuncio's Secret Archives: Papal diplomacy and European multi-denominational societies before the Thirty Years War, funded under the PRIN 2017 program (nr. 2017JMPYTA). The project aims to virtually reassemble, and enhance an extraordinary private archive created by two of the greatest papal diplomats of the second half of the 16th century, Giovan Francesco Commendone and Antonio Maria Graziani. The archive, now divided between Italy and Kansas (USA), is decisive for reconstructing the history of pontifical diplomacy in the crucial period between the peace of Augsburg (1555) and the Thirty Years War (1618-1648). Using Omeka S, a flexible, and open-source web-publishing platform, the data extracted from more than 3500 letters will allow scholars to interrogate a large amount of structured data contained in these historical records.

The programme of the conference is attached.
