Detection of carbon monoxide in air and biological systems

dr. Dr James Wilton-Ely Department of Chemistry Imperial College London Molecular Sciences Research Hub

abstract

Current research focuses on multimetallic assemblies and the immobilisation of metal units on gold nanoparticles. These materials address applications in catalysis, bioimaging (targeted MRI contrast agents) and sensing (carbon monoxide, heavy metals in water). The research into nanoscale materials extends also to functionalised thiols for the preparation of Self Assembly Monolayers (with Prof. Manfred Buck, St. Andrews). Most recently, the dissolution of biomass in ionic liquids and subsequent conversion into platform chemicals has become the focus of a joint project with Dr Jason Hallett (Imperial Chemical Engineering).
