Course objectives
Acquisition of the morphosyntactic system of the English language through the contrastive approach with the Italian system with special reference to mood and modality.
Pre-requirements
B2 to C1 level of English.
Contents
The course provides a detailed analysis of the morphosyntactic system of the English language with special reference to the use of English real and suppletive modal verbs.
The course will focus upon the use of passive, impersonal constructions and conditional clauses.
We will also deal with the morphosyntactic properties of real and suppletive modal verbs and provide some contrastive analysis of the systems of the two languages.
Interaction between modal verbs and sentential negation will also be taken into account.
