This course aims at the expansion and consolidation of reading and translation skills in Akkadian, leading students to acquire competence in the reading of intermediate to advanced-level cuneiform texts. At the end of the course, the student should have gained the ability to read, translate and interpretate cuneiform texts in the genres studied; should have gained appropriate knowledge of the philological and methodological issues and on-line resources, available for the study of cuneiform texts.
The course is suited to students already having a basic knowledge of Akkadian: Assyriology I is therefore compulsory. While not compulsory, Assyriology II is recommended, as long as two modules of History of the Ancient Near East.
