This course concerning the Mediterranean area will analyse the identities, the reality and the politics of development of the Mediterranean Region. History becomes an instrument to study: 1) the Mediterranean area as laboratory for international and intercultural relations; 2) the development and function of the commercial treaties in the Mediterranean countries.
Good knowledge of global history.
The Mediterranean Region: reality, development and prospects. Mediterranean Geopolitics during the 18th and 20th centuries. Origins, development and functions of the commercial treatises.
The course will be based on a selection of excerpted pieces from the volumes, articles, speeches, documents. Each week, students are advised to prepare the material in advance, so as to make classes interactive.
