The course aims to introduce the topic related to the complexity in the conservation of Cultural Heritage systems, considering not only the materic aspects, but also the interaction with the environment (indoor-outdoor), and the use of the goods. Methods for the evaluation of the state of conservation of CH are discussed, and materials and methods for the conservation of the CH are analyzed, in relation to the most current approaches. Scientific approaches are discussed within theoretical frameworks and also within practical applications (cases of study), in particular relating to the city of Venice.
The course will provide expertise regarding the evaluation of the state of conservation of CH, both architectural and artistic and archaeological, defined through scientific methodologies suitable for the goods. It will provide competences regarding the ability to define a conservative intervention appropriate not only to the good, but also to the surrounding environmental conditions and to the use of the asset itself. The student will learn to critically evaluate the current intervention methodologies, considering also aspects such as the sustainability of the intervention and the compatibility with the artifact.
Analytical chemistry, Innovative materials for the conservation, Conservation science for the restoration of modern and contemporary art.
1- Scientific strategies: meaning, interactions between the conservation ambient and materials of the art and of the architecture
2- The preservation of the stone: Assessment of the conservation status, Identification of the causes of decay, Invasive e non-invasive techniques
3- Protection and consolidation of stone materials: meaning, criteria for the monitoring of the interventions, traditional and innovative consolidants (characteristics, evaluation of the performance)
4- Green conservation: positive and critical aspects of already available methodologies
5- Contemporary mural paintings: conservation issues (decay processes, possible solutions)
6- Compatibility: significance, management of the conservation process, physical and chemical compatibility, examples (in short)
7- case of study (Torcello Island, Scuola Grande di San Rocco)
Scientific papers provided by the teacher, lecture notes.
