The course aims to provide students to theoretical and practical instrumental knowledge to be able to understand and follow the experimental analytical procedures for the determination of the analytes of interest in real environmental matrices, using traditional and instrumental analytical techniques. The course allow the learning of the basic techniques necessary for good laboratory pratice.
Basic knowledge of general and inorganic chemistry
Quality of analytical data. Use of analytical balances, fundamentals of gravimetric analysis. Gravimetric determination of sulphates in water sample. Determination of: total acidity of waste industrial waters (potentiometric titration), of OD in sea water, of Ca and Mg in drinkable water sample, (complexation titration). Stoichiometric calculations relating to experiences.
Spectrophotometric determination of nitrite ion, Cr and Mn in water samples.
Determination of Cu, Pb and Fe by Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS)
Deternination of aliphatic hydrocabon by gas chromatography (GC)
Determination of soluble ions by ion chromatography
Experiments of HPLC
Lecture notes
D. A. SKOOG, D. M. WEST, F.J. HOLLER, Fondamenti di Chimica Analitica, EdiSES, Padova
written and oral
During laboratory exercitations, the students carry out experimental activity and interpret the collected data
The written test is aimed at verifying whether students have learnt the required basic knowledge of the methods and calculations needed to properly express the results of laboratory analyzes. The subsequent oral test is aimed at briefly expanding on the details
