Institutional course; it aims to provide students with the first tools of philological analysis.
The course aims to give primarily knowledge of the epistemological principles of philology; also it offers knowledge of the modality of circulation of literary texts through manuscripts and prints and knowledge of the ecdotic praxis.
Knowledge of literary Italian and metric.
Essential notions of codicology and paleography, mainly in relation to vernacular texts.
Methodologies for the edition of literary texts with manuscript and printed tradition.

Oral examination on the issues of lessons and literature; a written exercise of editing a manuscript text is an integral part of the examination.
A conventional course using a laboratory.

A cycle of 10 exercises of 2 hours each, dedicated to codicology and palaeography, is part of the course. It offers useful information in order to achieve the written edition exercise,
The frequency of this course is strongly recommended as a preliminary to the courses of Italian Philology and Romance Philology.
Not attending students are requested to meet the teacher in order to work out a different program.
