- Knowledge of advanced, theoretical, methodological and practical elaborations relating to the sector of Latin palaeography, from the 7th century BC to the 16th AD;
- Knowledge of the main critical tools for the historical-cultural contextualization of the documentary and book heritage, as well as methods of transmission, enhancement and communication of the information acquired, for the period from the early Roman age to the modern age, throughout the Mediterranean and European area;
- Ability to participate in the formulation of specific projects concerning the safeguard, management, processing, enhancement and communication of manuscript assets;
- Ability to apply the learned methodological and theoretical tools critically to concrete and specific cases in order to solve complex professional situations involving autonomous choices;
- Ability to critically intervene on complex archival and bibliographical material, with particular reference to knowledge of material prior to the contemporary age;
- Ability to produce a critical edition of documentary and book materials.
- Knowledge of latin writing system history from its origins to XVI century;
- Ability to transcribe and to identfy date and place of origin of the principal latin writing systems in manuscripts and documents from 7th BC to 16th AD;
- Ability to critically apply theoretical methodological tools learnt, from the analysis of the codicological support of written text to the palaeographic analysis of documents and manuscripts;
- Ability to analyse complex written manufacts, including manuscripts and documents, in particular those dating back to the early Roman civilisation (7th BC) until the Modern Age.

- material supports for written texts;
- overview of the principal writing systems from “maiuscola” to humanistic writing systems;
- critical edition of written sources: manuscripts and books;
- writing systems of graffiti in Northern Italy;
- criteria for critical editions of paleographical texts.

technical workshops and practical exercises on graffiti in Northern Italy from early Medieval Age to 14th century;
a choice of reading one of the following books (in the lectures will be given individual sections):

the examination includes the reading, recognition and contextualization of some of the main medieval writings systems.
a written essay on a theme chosen by the student and agreed with the teacher will be presented in the field of palaeography (e.g. manuscripts, documents, graffiti, with analysis of the writings, contextualization, palaeographic commentary on the chosen testimonies).
