MODERN GREEK LANGUAGE - LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION 1

The teaching of Modern Greek Language is included in the courses of the Master's Degree course in European, American and Post-Colonial Languages and Literatures; the Master's Degree in Language Sciences and the Master's Degree in Humanities.
The course consists of a module (six-monthly) held by the teacher in the first semester. The frequency of annual language tutorials held by the expert mother tongue, Dr. E. Liosatou, is compulsory.

The student will have achieved a high understanding of the grammatical, morphological and syntactic structures of modern Greek; as well as the historical and ideological dynamics that characterize the modern Greek language. He/She will be able to recognize the phenomena of continuity and interference that affect the language, in a historical-cultural perspective; to express themselves correctly in oral and written form on specific topics; ability to understand an oral and written speech, even a complex one.
3. Autonomy of judgment
The student will be able to develop the advanced ability to evaluate the modern Greek language in the evolutionary context; to perceive continuities and discontinuities; to understand the specific dynamics of the different expressive registers. He/she will have developed a critical capacity with respect to historical, political and linguistic phenomena that affect the modern Greek language as well as mastery of the language at the level necessary to solve complex and unpredictable problems in a specialized field of work or study.

Knowledge and understanding: We will deepen the knowledge of the advanced Modern Greek language (C1 + / C2) of the common European framework developing the skills of in-depth analysis from the original language in a comparative key both with the mother tongue and with other known languages that with the comparison of the Greek language of the Hellenistic age (language of the Gospels), both in the standard variety and in the geographical / socio-cultural variety / registers; the student, under the guidance of the teacher, will practice the comprehension of texts, including specialized ones, with particular regard to disciplinary areas related to literatures / cultures and the ability to reflect on different styles and registers.
4. Communication skills
He/she will be able to communicate in the language used today in modern Greece, using appropriate terminology.
5. Learning skills
The student will be able to develop specific methodological tools in the study of various linguistic phenomena; taking notes, making critical summaries and sharing them in a collaborative form; to critically consult the reference texts and the bibliography contained in them; to use and create multimedia systems for active language learning.
He/she will be able to decode the ecclesiastical language: from the Gospels, from the Χριστιανική Διδασκαλία (Venice 1686) to contemporary texts. He/she will be able to fully understand contemporary scientific linguistic production, will be familiar with the different modern and contemporary literary styles in prose and verse. He/she will be able to express himself in oral and written form demonstrating the ability to manage complex technical / linguistic and literary projects, taking responsibility for decisions in unpredictable work or study contexts; He/she will have reached advanced linguistic skills, which demonstrate mastery of the expressive means.
