The course is part of the Master’s Degree Programme in European, American and Postcolonial Language and Literature and in Language Sciences and aims at providing students with advanced knowledge and skills in English, in particular by practicing translation into Italian. Students will improve their comprehension and analysis skills learnt during the BA and their ability to work in an autonomous way.
The learning outcomes of the course are: 1. advanced comprehension of literary texts in English; 2. the skill to apply this knowledge and understanding to other texts; 3. the development of skills for literary translation from English into Italian; 4. autonomous formulation of judgements related to the translation choices; 5. ability to work together with other students.
Buona conoscenza della lingua inglese e della lingua italiana.
A brochure containing primary and secondary material will be provided.
The exam will consist in:
- a 2-hour translation from a literary English text (250 words ca.) into a suitable Italian linguistic style, avoiding excessively loose personal interpretations.
- Comprehension of idiomatic structures.
Frontal lessons and presentations and discussions in class.

Students who cannot attend classes regularly should meet the professor during office hours so as to receive further advice for their exam.
