The aim of the first part of this module is to present the motivations and the basic concepts of text re-presentation and annotation, to discuss briefly the main systems available today, and to explore one of them through a test case. The students will learn how to use one of these systems in a collaborative context, both for learning and teaching tasks, as well as for scholarly research activities.

The objective of the second part of this module is to initiate students to annotation of 3D worlds and objects, a fundamental task for a full exploitation of the potential of 3D representation, with a particular reference to the domain of art and architecture research. The students will learn how to use a web-based social architecture for sharing, navigating and annotating 3D worlds and objects using different annotation styles. Finally the students will learn how to create simple educational stories on the top of the work done by the community of users.

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• understand the benefits of textual annotation in Digital Humanities;
• be aware of the benefits of 3D annotation for cultural heritage;
• understand the main differences between the different annotation tools;
• proficiently use one text annotation tool;
• annotate 3D objects using different annotation styles;
• browse and search annotated worlds using different types of interfaces;
• create simple stories.
Definitive programme.
