I graduated in 2003 at Università degli Studi di Pavia, with the thesis “Double β+ decay. An experiment proposal” (110/110 cum laude)

I got my PhD in 2008 at Università degli Studi di Pavia, with thesis "The fit of nuclear tracks in high precision spectroscopy experiments"

RESEARCH SUMMARY

My research is conducted within the area of high energy physics at accelerators. At the beginning I worked on an anti-proton protone collider for the experiment PANDA (GSI, Germania) and now I work on an e+e- collider for the experiment BESIII (IHEP, R.P.C.). In both cases, the main research topic is the mass region around charmonium value.

My work has been dedicated to the R&D of gas based trackers, from the more traditional to the more innovative Micro Pattern Gas Detectors. I started with the Straw Tube Tracker of PANDA (FAIR-GSI), then I moved to the Cylindrical GEM Inner Tracker of BESIII (IHEP) and to the µ-RWELL of IDEA (FCC-ee/CepC). In parallel, I worked on many side-projects. My main area of research is software applied to detectors, but I also took part to detector experimental testing and data analysis.

Software Development

I performed both standalone and in-framework software implementation. I was a developer for pandaroot (PANDA) and fairroot (whole FAIR), I work now in cgemboss (BESIII) and key4Hep (FCC-ee/CepC) frameworks.

I contributed to software development for the Straw Tube central tracker of PANDA and its insertion in the global trkacking. I worked on track finding and track fitting. I participated in the simulation campaign which led to the selection of the STT as Central Tracker. The results were publishde in the STT TDR in 2012.

For BESIII, I develop software for the inner tracker CGEM-IT, which will replace the present one, a drift chamber. I took care of the routine for Quality Assurance of the data inside the framework, used to validate the experimental data taken by our cosmic ray stand. The setup consists of two out of the three final layers of the detector. I also performed data analysis, also with Machine Learning tecniques. I am one of the software coordinators in the CGEM-IT project. I implemented many interface classes and service classes to make the cosmic ray data available in the framework.

I contribut also to software development for one of the proposed detectors, IDEA, as spectrometer for the future e+e- accelerator of 100 km circumference (FCC-ee/CepC).

I am responsible for the simulation work package in INFN project uRANIA-V, which studies the usability of a µ-RWELL (MPGD) with a boron-coated inner surface as a neutron detector. I simulated in GEANT4 different geometries, to drive the detector design and better understand the experimental data.

I am one of the twho authors of the software PARSIFAL, for  triple-GEM digitization, i.e. for the simulation of the detector response to the passage of charged particles. The tool was recently extended to the simulation of a µ-RWELL.

Detector Testing and Construction

Even though software is my main field of action, I have also largely contributed to detector development and tests.

I took part in the testing of the materials for the construction of the CGEM–IT, I participated to various testbeams at CERN and MAMI (Mainz) for planar and cylindrical chambers.

I participated in the experimental tests of the various options of boron-coated µ-RWELL at the HOTNES (ENEA) where a quasi-thermal neutron source is available, by taking data, analysing and comparing them to simulations.

The µ-RWELL are candidate as pre-shower and muon detectors in IDEA. I partici pated in testbeams at CERN–SPS–H8.
