CURRICULUM VITAE DR PAOLA-MARIA CALEFFI

EDUCATION

2017: PhD in English Studies (University of Verona). Doctoral thesis: "English in Italian Higher Education: Does Writing (Still) Matter?". Awarded with the Doctor Europaeus Certificate. Research Project funded by the University of Verona. The Doctoral Thesis is grounded in the research area of Writing Studies. Specifically, it is an investigation into the role of writing in higher education, with a focus on the teaching, learning and assessment of English L2 writing in Italian universities. It provides suggestions for a more effective integration of L2 writing in the university curriculum, and in particular of English L2 writing, in consideration of the role of English as the Medium of Instruction (EMI) in higher education. Final mark: Excellent.

2012: MA in Linguistics (University of Verona). MA thesis: "From English to ‘Twenglish’: A linguistic analysis of a social change". The thesis is grounded in the research area of Computer-Mediated Communication, and it is a study of the orthographic, morpho-syntactic, and lexical features of English as it is used on Twitter, based on a self-compiled corpus of 1,100 tweets. Final Mark: 110/110 cum laude.

2007: BA in Linguistics and Modern Foreign Language Teaching (University of Verona). BA thesis: "La Violenza della Legge e il Relativismo Semantico del Linguaggio Giuridico come Strumento di Potere" (The violence of Law and the Semantic Relativism of the Language of Law as a Tool of Power). The thesis draws on research in Law and Literature, and it is an interdisciplinary study grounded in linguistics and discourse analysis, as it carries out a linguistic analysis of the language of law in The White Devil, by John Webster. Final mark: 110/110 cum laude.

Adjunct Lecturer in the SSD L-LIN/12 at the University of Venice, the University of Verona, the University of Mantua, the University of Padua. Module leader of courses for different Departments and degrees (both BAs and MAs). Teaching of seminars to PhD students.
