The research interest of prof. Scarso is concentrated at the interface between homogeneous catalysis, supramolecular chemistry, green chemistry in water and drug development. Specific reaserch topics are metal-mediated asymmetric catalysis, development of organic-based artificial catalysts, supramolecular recognition within self-assembled hydrogen-bonded capsules, homogeneous catalysis in micellar media with examples in oxidation reactions and reactions formation of CC bonds in water, catalysis for the activation of hydrogen peroxide, supramolecular catalysis within self-assembled organized units, synthesis of new organic molecular structures for supramolecular applications, development of bisphosphonates as potential new drugs for bone resorption and, recently, synthesis of biologically active glucosyl-cholesterol conjugates involved in neurodegenerative diseases.
Future direction will be in the intensifciation of these research fields together with the intensification of international collaborations
