Standard Italian courses

3rd Session April-June 2022
In the academic year 2021/22, the Italian language courses of the 3rd session will ONLY be available online.
The way the following sessions will be organized will be established at a later stage.
The courses cover all levels - from A1 to C2 - according to the European Reference Framework (CEFR). They are held by highly qualified native speakers of Italian and offer students the opportunity to acquire all the skills needed to master Italian according to the selected course level.
Online courses will feature:
- live streaming classes and conversation labs (synchronous mode) by means of Zoom platform
- remote activities (asynchronous mode), supervised by the language teacher on the Moodle platform
- self-learning activities to reinforce and stimulate the use of lesson content by means of interactive exercises
Applications for the third session of standard Italian courses are open from March 21st until April 4th 2022
Course features
In the academic year 2021/2022 our Italian language courses will be available in three-month sessions in order to offer learning continuity and give students the chance to complete up to 3 levels, one after the other, per year.
The structure of the courses is as follows:
- First session: available ONLINE: September- December
- Second session: available ONLINE: January- March
- Third session: available ONLINE: April-June
Levels A1 and A2
Courses level A1 and A2 will last a total of 50 hours each distributed in 9 weeks, from mid-April to the end of June 2022.
Levels B1, B2, C1 e C2
Courses level B1, B2, C1 and C2 will last a total of 70 hours each, distributed in 10.5 weeks from mid-April to the end of June 2022.
Levels A1 and A2:
- 9 weeks
- 50 hours of language classes
- Classes include live streaming (synchronous mode) sessions held by language experts, labs for speaking skills and labs for writing skills on Moodle platform with the supervision of the language experts (asynchronous mode)
- extra online self-learning activities
- final test for evaluation of skills
- no credits
- fees according to category

Levels B1, B2, C1 and C2:
- 10 and a half weeks
- 70 hours of language classes

- extra online self-learning activities
- final test for competency evaluation only
- no credits
- fees according to category

Technical requirements
The online courses are accessible by means of an up-to-date PC, notebook or tablet, a good, fast internet connection, preferably with unlimited Gigabytes, and attached microphone and webcam.
All applicants enrolling in our courses must already have this equipment.
Levels will only be activated if a minimum number of enrollments is reached.
Exchange students
Please note that these courses are not the same courses as those offered exclusively for exchange students. Exchange students at Ca' Foscari, or at other higher education institutions in Venice can enrol in courses reserved especially for them at the following web page.
A1 - Beginners

Italian language courses for partner Universities
Upon request, the School can organise Italian language programmes for partner Universities which aim to create a true experience of life in Venice. The programmes can be combined with courses on Venetian and Italian culture, and can include numerous activities such as guided visits of the city and its museums, excursions in the lagoon and its surroundings, cultural events organised by Ca’ Foscari (theatre, music, cinema, writers conferences....), and cultural workshops, among many others.

How to enrol
If you wish to sign up for one of our Italian courses please fill out this form and read carefully the requested information. It is very important to indicate your correct residency address, including street name and number, zip code and country of residency.
If you are a first time SIE user, please upload your ID (identity document) and a passport-sized picture of yours.
You are also requested to indicate your status (student, PhD student, professor, etc) so we can determine the right fee. It is also necessary to upload a document certifying that what you have declared is true.
If you think your level is over A1, please upload an internationally recognized certificate providing evidence of the Italian skills you have acquired so far. The certificate must be one of these: CILS, PLIDA, CELI or ROMA TRE, otherwise you will have to take a placement test with instructions that will be forwarded at a second stage.
Applications for the third session of standard Italian courses are open from March 21st until April 4th 2022.

- Ca’ Foscari scholarship and research fellows, professors, administrative personnel, CEL at Ca' Foscari (Registration fees for these users will be covered by Ca' Foscari University of Venice)
- Family member of a researcher, professor, administrative personnel, CEL, PhD, research fellow at Ca' Foscari
Partially reduced (B) 25%
- Teachers, researchers, visiting staff from other universities
- Returning CFSIE or CLA students (for who has previously taken classes at the CFSIE or the CLA)
NB: the full rate applies for all applicants who do not fall under one of the above categories.
How to pay
You will be required to confirm your place for Italian language courses by sending through receipt of (full) payment to cfsie@unive.it with “Enrolment Italian [LEVEL] - confirmation” in the email’s subject line.
Please Note: You will be required to finalize your payment only after receiving our confirmation email.
Payment must be made within April 11th 2022 by clicking on a link that will be sent to you.
Refunds
Refunds are granted only in case the course has not been provided or in the event of objective and documented impossibility for the applicants to participate. In this case the paperwork must be sent within the first week from the beginning of classes..
The School for International Education (SIE) issues certificates in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for languages. In order to receive a certificate for a language course students must attend the entire course, and take the final test or sit an interview with one of the language instructors.
Attendance certificates
- Attendance certificate: for students who attend a minimum of 70% of all language classes (49 hours in 70 hour courses; 35 hours in 50 hour courses), but who do not take, or pass the final exam
- Attendance certificate with final grade: for students who attend a minimum of 70% of all language classes (49 hours in 70 hour courses; 35 hours in 50 hour courses), and who take and passed the final exam
CILS certification
In collaboration with the Università per Stranieri di Siena, the School for International Education is an officially recognised examiner for the CILS exam ("Certificazione di italiano come lingua straniera). Students who wish to certifiy their level of Italian as a second language can take the CILS exam at the SIE in several session throughout the year. Upcoming dates will be available shortly.
The SIE also organises preparatory courses for the CILS exam for levels B1, B2 and C1.
