Double/Joint Degree

European Joint Master’s Programme in English and American Studies

Double Degree in Iberian and Ibero-American Studies
with Universidad Nacional del Litoral (Argentina), Universidade do Espírito Santo (Brazil) or with Universidad de Sevilla (Spain).
At the end of their study programme students can be awarded with a double degree: a Master’s degree in European, American and Postcolonial Language and Literature of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and a Licenciatura en Letras of Universidad Nacional del Litoral; or a Master’s degree in European, American and Postcolonial Language and Literature of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice  and a Mestrado em Letras (Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras) of Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo; or a Master’s degree in European, American and Postcolonial Language and Literature of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and a Máster Universitario en Estudios Hispánicos Superiores of Universidad de Sevilla (Spain).

Double Degree - Master européen en Études Françaises et Francophones
At the end of their study programme students can be awarded with a double degree:  a Master’s degree in European, American and Postcolonial Language and Literature of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and a  Master européen en Études Françaises et Francophones of one of the partner universities.

Double Degree with Russian State University for the Humanities
At the end of their studies and after the final examination students achieve both the academic qualifications:

  • Laurea Magistrale in Lingue e letterature europee, americane e postcoloniali – percorso slavistica - balcanistica from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice;
  • Master in Philology in the Slavonic World and Italy from the Russian State University for the Humanities.

Access to the programme

Open admission, subject to assessment of minimum requirements.

Quota reserved to non-EU students residing outside Italy: 20 seats, of which 1 is reserved for a Chinese student living in China, under the Marco Polo Project.

Admission requirements

To be admitted to this Master's Degree Programme students must possess a proper individual educational background and the minimum curricular requirements. A certified knowledge of English at minimum level B2 is also required.

Admission with international qualification

Applicants with international qualification must have obtained a bachelor’s degree that is the result of at least 3 years of study. The preliminary evaluation of the qualification is mandatory. Procedures and deadlines are available on the dedicated online platform.
International qualification will be evaluated by the designated teaching committee after the pre-evaluation procedure carried out on the online platform.

Course overview

This Master's degree programme provides advanced knowledge of the languages, literatures and cultures of European, American and postcolonial countries, promoting cross-cultural perspectives within a solid background in humanities. 

Graduates will be able to continue their studies in the field of research, to fulfil roles of responsibility in the fields of national and international entrepreneurship and in public and private institutions; they will be able to access the programmes in order to teach in public or private primary and secondary school.

  • Literatures and Cultures. The sub-curricula available are:

    • American Studies;
    • English Studies;
    • French Studies;

    • Iberian and Ibero-American Studies;
    • Slavic and Balkan Studies.

  • English and American Studies. The sub-curricula available are:

    • Literary Studies (Joint degree);
    • Cultural Studies (Joint degree).

  • Estudios Ibéricos e Iberoamericanos (Double degree).
  • Master européen en Etudes Françaises et Francophones (Double degree).

Occupational profiles

Graduates will be able to find employment as organisers of cultural events in public and private, national and international companies and in the cultural industry sector; as an expert in intercultural education within a public or private institution in the fields of educational publishing, museum and library education services. He can work as an editor for publishing houses and publishing companies specialising in the literary and cultural sector; as a translator for private companies and public bodies publishing products. They can pursue an academic career after passing competitive examinations, or find employment with national and international research organisations. In order to become a teacher, graduates who have sufficient credits in appropriate groups of fields will be able, as provided for by current legislation, to take part in the admission tests for training courses for secondary teaching.

Examination assessment and graduation

Educational activities include classroom teaching, workshops and internships, in order to acquire wide-ranging skills that can be readily transferable into the world of work.
Knowledge gained by students will be assessed through written and oral exams during their entire university career.
The final exam consists in writing a thesis, which must possess the characters of originality, exhaustive documentation and scientific investigation and which will be discussed with a committee of university professors and experts.
