Double and Joint Degree

An agreement with the Université de Tours is active, under which the two universities will recognize to the selected students, at the conclusion of the studies, the double title of "Master’s Degree of Art in Philology and Italian literature" (Ca' Foscari University of Venice) and "Master 1 and 2 Etudes italiennes et Histoire de l’art - mention Etudes italiennes” (University of Tours).

Access to the programme

Open admission subject to assessment of minimum requirements.

Quota reserved to non-EU students residing outside Italy: 5 seats, of which 2 is reserved for a Chinese student living in China, under the Marco Polo Project.

Admission requirements

To be admitted to this Master's Degree Programme students must possess a proper individual educational background and the minimum curricular requirements. A certified knowledge of English at minimum level B2 is also required.

Admission with international qualification

Applicants with international qualification must have obtained a bachelor’s degree that is the result of at least 3 years of study. The preliminary evaluation of the qualification is mandatory. Procedures and deadlines are available on the dedicated online platform.
International qualification will be evaluated by the designated teaching committee after the pre-evaluation procedure carried out on the online platform.

Course overview

This Master’s Degree programme offers a solid specialised training with a historic-methodological approach in the study of linguistic-philology and literature training experts Italian literature and linguistic and Italian and Romanic philology,

At the center of the programme there are the deepening of the critical methods that govern the reading of literary and documentary primary sources and the strengthening of the awareness of the dialectical relationship between past and present. Depending on the curriculum chosen by the student they will be able to develop knowledge and skills in Italian and Romanic Medieval/Renaissance or Italian Modern/Contemporary era.

Occupational profiles

Master’s Degree students will be able to work in Libraries, Museums, Archives, Publishing Houses, Journalistic newsrooms, press offices, centres of documentation and foundation, public and private firms for the tutelage, evaluation and promotion of historic, cultural and artistic patronage.

Examination assessment and graduation

The formative activity consists of lectures, exercises/seminars, workshop activities and internships; the acquired skills will be verified through written and oral examinations.

The final degree exam will consist of creating a piece of written work that is the product o fan in-depth personal analysis of content coherent to the formative course. It can be in the form of a critical review, the discussion of a scientific question,  or a bibliographic review of a specific topic. It could also concern the analysis of a source – edited or unedited – or propose the edition of the same source. The work must be carried out under the watch of a supervisor; the written work will then be discussed in a brief interview with the supervisor and/or a scholar chosen as a reviser.
