Museums and culture accessible to all, beyond the barriers of disability. This will be theme of the conference entitled ‘Accessibility for sensory disabilities in museums and the cultural sphere’ on Friday November 18th at 10 am at Ca' Bernardo, Classroom B, bringing together cultural institutions and companies engaged in the issue.

The event is organized by the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies at Ca’ Foscari (in the front line of teaching and research on Italian Sign Language for over 15 years), and also by university spin off VEASYT, developing digital services for people with sensory disabilities and speech disorders, from tourist guides to video-interpretation.

Opening the meeting will be Prof. Anna Cardinaletti, director of the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies, with a speech concerning accessibility for ‘invisible disabilities’. The conference will then continue with representatives of institutions such as the Regional Institute for Venetian Villas, Museums of the Veneto and Fondazione Musei Civici of Venice. After this, companies that offer services for accessibility, such as VEASYT Ltd., will present their experiences as will private and public individual organizations, who deal with targeted projects, such as Palazzo Grassi and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
