International Women's Day: reflecting on the work of Svetlana Alexievich

On the International Women’s Day we reflect on the work of Svetlana Alexievich, a journalist and writer who was born in Ukraine in 1948 to a Ukrainian mother and a Belarusian father. Ms Aleksievič, who reported on the main events in the Soviet Union in the second half of the twentieth century, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2015.

Ca’ Foscari inaugurates the 2021/2022 academic year

On 16 February, Tiziana Lippiello, Rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, inaugurated the 2021/2022 Academic Year — the university’s 154th academic year since it was founded in 1868. Massimo Osanna, Director General of Museums, delivered a keynote address.

War and the Balkans in comics: a conversation with Aleksandar Zograf

An abandoned diary that describes the bombing of Belgrade during WWII has become a graphic novel on display at the Library of Congress in Washington. The author is Aleksandar Zograf, a Serbian cartoonist and graphic journalists. Zograf will be at Ca’ Foscari on 7 December 2021 at 5:30 p.m. in Aula Baratto to present the Italian translation of his latest novel, “ll quaderno di Radoslav e altre storie della II guerra mondiale”.

South-East Asia religions: in class with Thai Buddhist monks

Students of the new South-East Asia curriculum have met two Thai Buddihst monks — an experience that bridges the gap between the students and the religious culture they learn about in class.

The 14th edition of the international literary festival was inaugurated on 3 November with Nicole Krauss at Scuola Grande di San Rocco, where the writer received the Francesca Bortolotto Possati-Ca' Foscari Prize. The festival will conclude on 6 November with Vinicio Capossela.
