Throughout the month of July, the SIE will offer summer schools in three different subject areas: Global Studies, Contemporary Art & Curatorship, and Classical Chinese and Japanese

This is a great opportunity for students: you can learn from renowned professors and experts of different fields, while immersing yourself in an international environment. Participating in these summer schools also gives you the chance to acquire university credits (ECTS), as well as expand your knowledge and network to build your future career path.

Check the Call for Applications to find out how you can participate and register by April 29th, 2023.

Let’s take a quick look at the courses:

Contemporary Art & Curatorship: from documenta to the Biennale

In the first venture of its kind, the Summer School in Contemporary Art and Curatorship offers students the chance to gain insight into the management principles of two of the world's most important and influential contemporary art exhibitions - the Kassel documenta and La Biennale di Venezia - by bringing together the expertise of scholars, artists and curators based in the hosting cities of Kassel (Germany), and Venice (Italy).

This course will offer two distinct yet interconnected 2-week modules that investigate the history, management principles and strategies of the two art institutions. Students have the chance to fully immerse themselves in contemporary art and curatorship for 4 weeks, through lectures and visits to exhibition spaces in Kassel, Berlin and Venice.

Classical Chinese and Japanese

The programme is designed for students with a background in either Chinese or Japanese, who want to broaden their knowledge base of either language. Students with less experience are also welcome. This summer programme is organised in collaboration with Princeton University and offers two tracks of comprehensive, grammar-focused classes taught by Faculty members from both Ca' Foscari and Princeton. The intensive language classes will be completed by a series of lectures on various topics relating to premodern Chinese or Japanese culture.

Global Studies

Globalization is increasing the interdependence of states, economies, societies, cultures, and people. The 4th International Summer School in Global Studies covers significant topics such as globalization and sustainable development, international relations and law, climate change and international policies, the recent geopolitical turmoil and the main implications in terms of military power. The programme - in collaboration with the Italian Military Navy - also gives students the opportunity to attend a “Country profile workshop”, where they will actively participate in the analysis of the physical, political, economic, and military profile of a Country or Area of their choice.

Through lectures and seminars, students will acquire the knowledge and skills for understanding the complexity of today’s global system and its main implications for economic governance and policy making.
