Ca' Foscari and KIT inaugurate new joint programs

On October 24, 2019 the Kyoto institute of Technology organized a symposium in occasion of the International week, involving three Academic lectures by Italian Partners. Ca’ Foscari professor and Vice-Rector Tiziana Lippiello was also among the speakers, with a lecture titled ”Man and Nature in Chinese Philosophy and the Advent of Western Science”. 

The second part of the day was dedicated to the presentation of new Joint/Double degree programs. Prof. Giuseppe Pezzotti, Vice President of the Kyoto Institute of Technology introduced three double degree programs, including the Double Degree Master Program between KIT and Ca’ Foscari University, presented by prof. Tiziana Lippiello and by KIT coordinator, prof. Kaeko Kamei. 

For Ca’ Foscari and KIT this was the kickoff meeting of the Double Degree Program at the presence of the President of KIT prof. Kiyotaka Morisako and the Vice President for International Relations prof.Giuseppe Pezzotti.

The Double Degree Master program in Science and Technology of Bio and Nanomaterials is a joint initiative between the Ca’ Foscari Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems and KIT  Faculties of Materials Science and Engineering and of Molecular Chemistry and Engineering. During the two-year full-time Program, students can carry out their research projects in the DSMN laboratories, become part of the International program with KIT and  develop the ability to collaborate with professionals with diverse academic backgrounds.  

Students will follow a study program consisting of 2 semesters at the home institution and 2 semesters at the host institution. They will then meet at the same Institution for one entire year. The coordinators will be prof. Patrizia Canton (Ca’ Foscari) and prof. Kaeko Kamei (KIT).

Japan is one of the most important partners for Ca’ Foscari’s internationalization strategy in Asia thanks to:

• A large number of agreements and mobility projects, especially in the framework of the Overseas program;

• The importance of the strategic cooperation with high-profile partners in fields like Japanese studies, science, management and geopolitics;

• A strong focus on Japanese language courses in Italy and promotion of the Italian language abroad

For some years now, the Kyoto Institute of Technology has also been a destination in the Erasmus plus ICM program. Among the benefits of this fruitful cultural exchange, there are the competitive linguistic and cultural preparation of the students, the improvement of the quality of the research on subjects related to Japan in Italy and also an improval  in scientific and didactic discussions, comparing good practices.

The “Science and Technology of Bio and Nanomaterials” course will also become an international PhD program between the two Universities
In particular, the PhD will focus on intensive research in fields such as biomedicine, sensor technology and pharmaceutics, for example working on the development of new drugs and therapies - like theranostics - where nanomaterials can play a huge role.
Other areas of application of the acquired knowledge could be in the field of prosthetics - where nanostructured multifunctional coating is necessary to ensure surfaces that are biocompatible both with the mechanical specifics and with the durability - and that of biochemical sensor technology, which includes environmental monitoring for water pollutants, the agrifood industry and the analysis of biological fluids.
