Update May 9

EXAM DATES
All dates for the IV period (economics and humanities) are online since earlier this week. The dates for the summer session (June 3 - 27) will be online on Monday, May 11th. It's been a long process, due to the complexity of the online exam procedures: thank you for your patience and understanting.

INTERNSHIPS
In compliance with the safety regulations currently in place, the agreements for curricular internships will be reactivated from 18 May. All activities may be carried out in presence, remotely,  or in mixed mode depending on the availability and needs of the host organization, based on the training project agreed upon by the company/institution and the university tutors. All the interventions already planned and the services offered remotely for international internships remain in place.

POST LAUREAM INTERNSHIPS
These depend on the regulations issued by the Veneto Region, which should be published shortly. We will keep you posted on any development.

LIBRARIES
The university libraries will reopen on May 13th. Please notice that we will only activate some of the services, once again in compliance with the safety and security dispositions issued by the Italian Prime Minister and by the President of the Veneto Region. Below, please find detailed instructions.

SERVICES ACTIVE FROM MAY 13th

1. BOOK LOAN

The loan service is reactivated, by appointment only. The service will be offered on given days (cf. below) from 10 am to 1 pm, with reservations every 15 minutes to prevent gatherings. Users must wear adequate protection (mask and gloves) and must present their university badge for identification purposes.

The CerCa’ bibliographic resources portal at the link https://www.unive.it/pag/40453  allows you to check which (if any) library has the book and the book location within the collection. Users will have to check the availability of the book based on title, author and location.
Book requests are then sent to the libraries where the books are located using the "Loan booking" form available at the following links:
BAUM  https://static.unive.it/prenotazioni/p/baum-pp
BAS     https://static.unive.it/prenotazioni/p/bas-pp
BEC     https://static.unive.it/prenotazioni/p/bec-pp
BALI    https://static.unive.it/prenotazioni/p/bali-pp

Failure to show up at the appointment or a delay of more than 10 minutes will lead to the cancellation of the request, which will have to be re-submitted.
Arriving early at the library does not determine the right to enter, unless authorized by library staff.
Students without the university ID badge will not be admitted, even if they have booked correctly.
Stopping to read the books taken out on loan in the library is not permitted.

Addresses and opening hours of the loan service:
BAUM: Palazzo Malcanton Marcorà loan desk, from Monday to Wednesday, from 10 am to 1 pm;
BEC: San Giobbe loan desk, from Tuesday to Thursday, from 10 am to 1 pm;

2. PHOTOCOPYING OF JOURNAL ARTICLES
Libraries are reopening the photocopying service for articles in paper only format, by appointment only.Users must wear adequate protection (mask and gloves) and must present their university badge for dentification purposes.

The CerCà bibliographic resources portal at the link https://www.unive.it/pag/40453  allows you to check which library holds the journal and where it is found in the collections (“location”). After identifying the title, author, year and the issue of the magazine, and having checked in the catalogue that the issue is actually owned, users must write to the holding library, at the addresses listed below, and wait to receive confirmation of appointment:
BAUM:  baum@unive.it
BEC:  bec@unive.it
BAS:  prestitibas@unive.it
BALI:  bali@unive.it
The library sets a date and time of appointment with at least one day’s notice. The library will set the appointment taking into account the number of items requested, in order to prevent gatherings at the photocopiers.
The library will find the issues or works requested and make them available at the information/reception desk, where users can collect them to make the required photocopies.
The service does not apply for articles that can be found online.
Failure to show up at the indicated time or a delay of more than 10 minutes will lead to the cancellation of the request, which will have to be re-submitted.
Arriving early at the library does not determine the right to enter, unless authorized by library staff.
Students without the university ID badge will not be admitted, even if they have booked correctly.
Stopping to read in the library is not permitted.

Update: April 3 - 2.15 pm

All current safety measures will be extended until April 13, 2020.

Update: March 23 - 10.15 am

EXAMS

The exam period originally scheduled for the week of March 23 s extended to two weeks from March 23 to 27 and from March 30 to April 3. All exams, whether oral or written, will be held remotely during these two weeks.  All written tests will be transformed into oral exams or carried out remotely according to the instructions you will receive from your instructor. For each exam, please check your instructor's web page at the tab "avvisi"/"notices". Any exam (whether oral or written) scheduled for the week of March 23 and currently rescheduled will be held on the week March 30 - April 3, on the same days and times defined by the original schedule.

Given the current state of continued emergency, imagining to have face-to-face exams in May, as initially planned, is no longer an option: therefore, even when postponed, the the written tests would be  carried out remotely.

Consequently, postponing all the written tests (to be carried out remotely) to the end of the fourth period would create an unsustainable accumulation of exams. The only alternative would be to extend the session beyond limits that would however endanger other deadlines. All in all, we would have a too dense and heavy exam session, in which the chances to take most exams would be only virtual and not real.

ONLINE BIBLIOGRAPHICAL RESOURCES

During the temporary closure of Ca’ Foscari’s libraries due to the coronavirus outbreak, you can make use of the university’s vast collections of resources, which you can easily access from home.
There are plenty of online resources available, including over 2 million e-books, more than 60,000 e-journals and 84 databases, all of which can be explored by using Ca' Foscari's library portal, cerCa'.

You can find the database list under Banche dati [ITA] and the e-journal catalogue with all of the titles for which the university has a subscription at Periodici elettronici [ITA].

Remote access to full texts is possible when using your university credentials (matriculation number and password).  Please follow these instructions: Accesso remoto risorse elettroniche
For further information or for additional help with the use of electronic resources and the portal cerCa’, please fill in this online help form: Chiedi aiuto [ITA].

For technical problems due to your VPN’s installation, proxy settings or your institutional credentials, please contact the Call Centre.

From home it is also possible to access ARCA, Ca’ Foscari’s research repository, as well as the full-text documents and photographs of other digital archives (see archivi digitali [ITA]).

As to support services, we will activate smart working in all possible cases so as to concur to limit people mobility as requested by the decree. We will follow-up with more detailed instructions later today.

The Rector Michele Bugliesi: "I am fully aware that we all are shocked and alarmed  by the current situation. At the same time, I have no doubt that we all agree that we must be united and act with the sense of responsibility  and participation that the emergency requires".

*****************************************************

Dear colleagues, dear students,

over the past two days we have received news about some cases of Coronavirus 19nCoV infection in Veneto. This is a situation that requires appropriate measures and great attention.

First of all, I invite the entire academic community to comply with the prescriptions that the regional crisis unit has issued and will issue based on the evolution of the infection. In particular, the following prevention measures are recommended (WHO note and MUR address line):

• Wash your hands often with water and soap or disinfectant gel

• When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or handkerchief, then wash your hands

• Avoid contact with anyone with fever and cough.

As to the academic activities, in order to reduce the risk of infection, following President Luca Zaia's  indications  and in coordination with the universities of the Veneto region, all lectures and exams are suspended in all university sites in Venice , Mestre, Treviso and Roncade from 24/02 to 29/02.

Libraries and study rooms will also be closed from 23/02 to 01/03.

The new calendar for lessons and exams will be communicated as soon as possible on the Ca 'Foscari website and on the official communication channels.

For all members the faculty and staff all activities will take place regularly, except for the mobility restriction decided by local ordinances.

Siamo in stretto e costante contatto con le unità di crisi regionali e nazionali e con i ministeri competenti. Ti aggiorneremo tempestivamente man mano che la situazione si evolve.

Il rettore

Michele Bugliesi
