Ca’ Foscari continues to fund excellence in research with the Supporting Principal Investigators (SPIN), which aims to promote impact research and to strengthen its attractiveness for the best international researchers. The scope of the call is to receive proposals from outstanding talents to fund research projects with a maximum duration of 24 months in all scientific areas available at Ca’ Foscari.

The university is investing 250,000 euro and the call is open until 14 June 2022. The call is open to Ca’ Foscari researchers and professors who intend to develop and coordinate an internationally relevant research project. In October 2021, 12 highly innovative international projects obtained access to the funds — with topics ranging from international law to economic and environmental sustainability, to IT, to robotics and palaeography.

Some of the projects include:

  • IL and Korea - From European International Law to Asian One: Korean Experience, 1880s-1940s, developed by An Jong-Chol and regarding the role of Korea in international, Eurocentric companies
  • WESTEN - Towards a Connected Business History of Europe: The Westen Group by Giovanni Favero on European de-industrialisation, focussing on how entrepreneurs and local politicians respond to industrial crises and change, through a historical-geographical perspective
  • VALORBIO - VALorization of urban ORganic waste into BIO-products by Francesco Valentino adopts a circular economy and zero-waste approach, focussing on the transformation of food waste
  • ME.MO.R.I.A. - Medieval Mural Mosaics in Italy: Rediscovering in Absentia (material, figurative and written traces) by Simone Piazza, who analyses mediaeval mosaics using an interdisciplinary approach to create a database and 2D and 3D visualisation of what has been lost.
