On Friday September 22nd at 11am Ca’ Foscari International College, an outstanding programme for Italian and international students residing in the island of San Servolo with a special additional training programme in English, will start its sixth year.

As a guest of honour, Bruno Manfellotto, columnist and former director of the Italian newspaper L’Espresso, will dedicate his Lectio Magistralis to one of the most discussed current issues: Between truth and post-truth: a look at the state of health of news. The ceremony will be held in the presence of the rector and of all those who are active in the Venetian College - students, professors, friends and supporters.

The 54 residents are facing a year with a wide range of activities: they will have to manage their own time between their degree programme, the cultural programme of the College and the courses on the following internationally relevant areas taught in English and only accessible to them: Global Asian Studies, Digital Humanities and Sustainability.

Agar Brugiavini, College Director, explains: “For the second year in a row we launch Minors which are conceived in a three year period as complementary to the chosen degree programme. These courses are mandatory and students commit themselves to obtain high grades. At the end of their experience students will graduate for instance in Economics and Finance with a minor in Global Asian Studies, or in Philosophy with a Minor in Sustainability, or in Languages with a Minor in Digital Humanities, showing a wide and multidisciplinary dimension that is held in high esteem in the labor market”.

The College programme includes a compulsory study abroad period, visits, interdisciplinary labs that help students with developing additional skills, time management, teamwork, writing or public speaking, which are very important skills for further studies or a professional career.

This unique education model in Italy has been proven effective: some graduates have been selected by well-known private and public bodies such as Google and Maserati, and other continue with their studies in prestigious universities around Europe and the world.
